Preparation, review and close-out
Make the work, the documents and the approval responsibilities clear.
A permit needs to show more than an approval label. Safety Figure keeps the proposed work, people, time, supporting documents, reviews and close-out records together, with separate responsibilities for preparation and authorisation.
Example: planned maintenance in a production area
Before a contractor starts a defined maintenance task, identify the location, duration and participants. Attach the relevant document versions and make any missing information visible to the reviewer. The preparation, review and start authorisation steps help the team see who must act next.
Follow the permit through its full lifecycle
Prepare the request and required documents, complete the authorised review and start checks, then record the close-out request and signatures. The person who prepares a permit cannot approve their own request. Review approval and starting work remain separate steps.
- Identify the job, workplace, people and time window.
- Review document warnings and complete the required signatures and checks.
- Keep the completion review with the permit history.
Agree how warnings fit your operating rules
The current workflow allows new permits to be created and approved while document warnings remain visible, including in the output. It does not remove signature, time, equipment or other checks. Review this behaviour with your responsible team during the pilot; do not assume that a missing document automatically blocks approval.
Does approving the request automatically release the work?
No. Start authority, required signatures, the valid time period and current conditions are checked separately. Your site remains responsible for deciding when the work can proceed and for the applicable permit procedure.
